Welcome to the Junior Learning Community.

Year One and Two at St Luke's are spread across three Learning Groups in 2020. The teachers are: Ms Gabriella Mercuri, Ms Chelsea Monk and Ms Donna Allen. Mr Tony MacDonald supports the team with the Reading Recovery Program.

Affectionately known as the Junior Learning Community (JLC), we provide a fun, creative space where students develop an early love of inquiry and learning, whilst learning and modelling the St Luke's School expectations. All students enjoy a strong emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy as well as specialist and enrichment programs, including the study of Italian.

There is an emphasis on skill development and acquisition of understandings through a balanced curriculum and best teaching practice that actively engages students in investigations, play and explicit teaching. The differentiated learning program ensures that all levels of ability are appropriately supported and challenged.

Each year we have a major excursion that links into one of our four Inquiry Units as well several incursions and local excursions. We often hold showcase events inviting parents and family members to listen to their children share their learning.

We participate termly in JLC Masses, where the students develop leadership opportunities by participating in readings and having significant roles within the service. This is another time, where community involvement is encouraged.

The team prides itself on being part of this vital phase of student education and preparing them with the academic and pastoral skills for the Middle Learning Community.
